How to avoid the Pharmalytes-SDS complexes to be stained after the second dimension?
Pharmalytes are optimal as addition in the first dimension. Here two remedies.....

Remedy #1: Stay with the Pharmalytes and use the additional washing steps given in the different staining methods: Hot Coomassie, Semi Colloidal Coomassie

Pharmalytes in the first dimension - Hot Coomassie Staining

Remedy #2: Use Servalytes / Sinulytes in a lower concentration in the first dimension:
Pharmalyte in the first dimension

Pharmalyte-SDS complexes in the second dimension (left side), silver-staining started with TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid)
Sinulyte in the first dimension

Servalyte / Sinulyte / SepaLyte will not form SDS complexes in the second dimension
